Davis Arts Center is a nonprofit organization committed to engaging the community in arts education. Our mission is to cultivate the artist within, fostering creativity, curiosity, resiliency, and empathy for others.
We have openings for one to two part-time Teaching Artist positions with experience in watercolor, painting, drawing, zine making, and/or comic books and a passion to teach multiple classes across ages 6-17:
- Youth Ages 6-12 : These 5-week introductory classes teach the basic techniques of watercolor, painting, and/or drawing. Students learn the basic terminology and techniques while engaging in fun and creative activities.
- Workshops : These 1- or 2-day workshops are offered on a rolling basis and provide participants with hands-on experience in a specific activity or project.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop projects and lesson plans to teach course content in the specified time
- Prepare and maintain art supplies and studios for each class
- Communicate with student’s families on student progress and/or as needed
- Maintain a safe and welcoming classroom environment for all students across a variety of skill levels, interests, and learning styles
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to teach art classes to youth and/or adults
- Thorough knowledge of relevant art materials, techniques and approaches
- Experience with watercolor, painting, drawing, zine making preferred
- Knowledge of art studio operations such as budgeting and supplies management, preferred
- Bilingual Spanish-English, preferred
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
Schedule
Minimum on-site hours for September-December include:
- 3:00-5:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
This position requires a commitment through mid-December with the opportunity to extend and continue as a Teaching Artist in 2027 and beyond.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is $20 per hour. A Teaching Artist who takes on multiple classes will work 6-10 hours per week.
